Dixi

Terris was working away at the stables when the trailer arrived. He looked up from where he was mucking out a stall with a look of mild puzzlement on his face.

He did not have any rescues coming in today, he'd made sure of it, as it was his birthday, and he wanted to get out early to celebrate.

He approached the four wheel drive with caution, poked his head through the drivers' side window, and came face to face with his cousin.

"This one of yours?" he asked.

She laughed at him.

"No, it's your birthday present" she replied, shoving him out of the way with the car door.

"We thought you could use a companion that was not a hard luck case, one you wouldn't have to say goodbye to once a new home was found, and one that you could actually ride, unlike that homicidal maniac you call a horse"

He laughed gleefully at this and raced toward the trailer, throwing the doors open in record time.

A bright blue eye was instantly pinned on him. The mare regarded him quietly, curiosity, but no fear or stress on her features.

In time he would learn the young mare was many things, but a handful she was not.

She moved quietly out of the trailer as she was led, her ears forward and her eyes alert, even the sound of the stallion raging in a nearby paddock did not seem to trouble her, and she settled almost immediately when she was put in an empty stall, moving to happily munch her feed as Terris spoke to his cousin.

"Whats her name?" He asked.

"Her previous owners called her Dixi, she was a barrel horse" She replied.
